Each 20 November is Africa Industrialisation Day, an official observance of both the UN and the Organization of African Unity (OAU). Africa Industrialisation Day has been held since 1990 and is observed by governments, organizations, and communities both in and outside of Africa.

More than 30 of the 50 least industrialised nations on Earth are in Africa. Africa Industrialization Day is meant to bring attention to that fact and to uniting people in finding ways to change it.

On and around 20 November, there are special media campaigns, conferences, and events promoting the process of industrialising Africa, which could lead to stronger economies in some of the world’s poorest countries. The UN Industrial Development Organization also issues statements concerning African Industrialisation on this day.
